History of Judeo-Christian Principles
America is accused of intolerance if it supports or teaches that Judeo-Christian principles formed our nation. Diversity enforcement injects the belief that all cultures, values, and ethics are equal, and America was founded on each of them; but a brief history of our nation will prove this to be erroneous.
The American Way is based on Judeo-Christian principles. Though our nation is comprised of many cultures, the original base of the American culture responsible for its foundation is far different from the various cultures that came later. From the time early settlers came to this land, Biblical principles prevailed from the 1620 Mayflower Compact, through the formation of all 50 state constitutions.
The Mayflower started its voyage on September 6, 1620, from Plymouth, England, with approximately 100 Pilgrims aboard. It was bound for Virginia in order to establish a colony in North America. The trip was long and arduous, and the courage of the Pilgrims was put to the test under harsh conditions. Eventually they arrived in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and the Pilgrims signed the Mayflower Compact in November of 1620.
Their commitment to purpose and Christianity can be seen in the phrases used in the compact, such as "In the name of God, Amen" and "Having undertaken for the Glory of God, and Advancement of the Christian faith..." The Mayflower Compact served as the first basis for written law in America.
The first Constitution that created a government was the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut, signed January 14, 1639. This served as a model for others that followed. It is clear from the following quote from this document that the government was formed under God and Biblical truths.
For as much as it hath pleased Almighty God by the wise disposition of his divine providence where a people are gathered together the word of God requires that to maintain the peace and union of such a people there should be an orderly and decent Government established according to God to maintain and preserve the liberty and purity of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus which we now profess, as also, the discipline of the churches, which according to the truth of the said Gospel is now practiced amongst us; as also in our civil affairs to be guided and governed according to such Laws, Rules, Orders, and Decrees as shall be made, ordered, and decreed as followeth:
Eventually, dedicated men came to realize the importance of writing a Declaration of Independence. The original rough draft, by Thomas Jefferson, was revised thirty-nine times by Congress before its final adoption on the morning of July 4, 1776. Jefferson said of the document:
Neither aiming at originality of principle or sentiment, nor yet copied from any particular and previous writing, it was intended to be an expression of the American mind.
There were no fireworks when the 56 brave men signed the document. They knew their lives; families, homes, and reputations were at stake. Five of the signers were caught by the British as traitors and tortured before their death. Twelve had their homes burned. One signer had two sons captured and two others lost their sons in the Revolutionary War. These are but a few of the horrors these courageous men endured for their belief in freedom. They knew their actions to be right and were willing to sacrifice everything to sign the Declaration of Independence.
Later in his life, Jefferson wrote on June 24, 1826, to Roger C. Weightman, and predicted that the Declaration would restore "the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. Jefferson was also quoted as saying:
I have sworn upon the alter of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.
Diversity enforcement now seeks to deny us our freedom of mind and opinion so important to Jefferson; tyranny reigns when man's mind and behavior is manipulated to change. Following the Declaration of Independence, America moved forward in its aim to protect itself against such abuse.
The Continental Congress proceeded to write the Articles of Confederation during the Revolutionary War and thirteen colonies adopted it on March 1, 1781. The Articles are considered the first governing documents of America and the baby steps that were necessary for the successful formation of the U.S. Constitution, signed on September 17, 1781.
The original intent of our Founding Fathers was for the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence to work together in providing security to our newly formed nation. Common Law was used to fill the gap for injustices not covered specifically in the Founding document. You might say it was based on customs, the community, or just plain common sense.
