Diversity Education

What is it?  It has become the buzz of the century.  Workshops are taking place all across America.  It is the hottest politically correct item in education, both elementary and secondary education.  Liberals have taken the word diversity, changed the meaning, and are becoming quite successful in a very aggressive transformation of American thoughts.  It is brought in under the guise of “Advisory” or “Advocacy” in the public school systems.  Here is an example of diversity themes taken directly from the public school system here in Elk Grove, California.

QUOTES FROM SEED’S 1700 EDUCATIONAL HANDOUTS

ANTI-CHRISTIAN

“Heterosexism and homophobia work together to enforce compulsory heterosexuality and that bastion of patriarchal power, the nuclear family. . . . The attack has been led by fundamentalist ministers across the country.”

“The primary archetypal story that keeps men from transforming is one of patriarchy.”

“Fundamentalist religions ‘naturalize’ all the differences between women and men which they teach.”

“Who defined “major” theology, and “important” church history?”

“Do not be afraid to sing your heart’s song to the earth with honor and love.” “I Pledge Allegiance to the Earth, and all the life which it supports . . .”

ANTI-AMERICAN

"Capitalism relies on rich people having uninterrupted access to poor people's bodies."

"U.S. people, especially White people, have trouble seeing systemically.  Consider White individualist ideology.  Consider U.S. education.  Consider capitalist values.  And note, Marx didn't really spell out privilege systems well, either!"

"I feel the U.S. is deeply damaged by the way it has developed . . ."

"American Myth:  This is the land of opportunity where anyone can grow up to be President."

"Relatively small population groups such as Native Americans often deserve large amounts of retribution."

"I am descended from American idealists, black and white, who came to the new Soviet state in the 1930's with high hopes of building a more just society through communism. . . . Those children -- my black grandfather and white grandmother - joined the newly established American Communist Party . . ."

". . . it is the heritage of the mother that the African-American male must regain as an aspect of his own personhood - the power of ‘yes' to the ‘female' within.  To reform core curriculums, to account for the comparable eloquence of the African, the Asian and he Middle Eastern traditions, is to begin to prepare our students for their roles as citizens of a world culture, educated through a truly human notion of ‘the humanities,' rather than -- . . . - as guardians of the last frontier outpost of white male Western culture."

"Black men are currently being offered patriarchy as a distraction from taking on systems of domination as a whole. . . .She [Bell Hooks] argues that the rhetoric that all Black people need is to have a ‘successful' (meaning employed/class privileged - an impossibility in a capitalist society where some must be jobless to keep wages nominal and workers exploited), heterosexual Black male patriarch in all Black households is actually conservative and not liberatory.  It functions as a bribe to Black men, luring them to accept a small sphere of oppressive power by agreeing to dominate women and children in the home, instead of working toward the liberation of all people."

 ". . . the Constitution [is] an ‘agreement with Hell' . . ."

ANTI-WHITE

"We know the litany of dominants:  white people, males, Christians, heterosexuals, able-bodied people, those in their middle years, and those who are middle or upper class."

"Unless we eliminate white power and privilege, people with lighter skin color, . . . will be more highly valued than people with darker skin. (emphasis added).  . . . White people have constantly shifted the vocabulary . . ."

"[A]nybody white, could take your whole self for anything that came to mind.  Not just work, kill, or to maim you, but dirty you."

"I am struck by the magnitude of the effects of unincriminated "whiteness.'"

". . . discuss a way in which you have seen white privilege at work . . ."

Article titled:  "Why We Whites Have the Bucks". We maintain the illusion that whites are the majority and therefore deserve a disproportionate share of the national resources."

"African Americans have powerfully and unrelentingly challenged the myths of American democracy and economic opportunity." (emphasis added)

"Which communities of color are routinely ignored or not seen by white people you know?"

ANTI-HETEROSEXUAL MALE/PRO-HOMOSEXUAL

". . . deep and very unusual, breaking new ground, . . . in support of one feminist value - that all the forms of human love be respected and validated."  (this includes pedophilia) SEED heroes include Malcolm X, Audre Lordes (a black lesbian socialist - her own self-description).

"This is why my feeling also is that men of color will never be truly men until we rediscover the feminine within ourselves."

"The simplest ways I use language in the classroom feel most important to students.  Over and over again I reinforced the normalizing of references to gays and lesbians in ordinary classroom discourse. . . . You [the teacher] would tell us that love did not have to be male-female.  I think this is a good technique . . . Ms. Roy [the teacher] by doing simple little things in class helped to normalize homosexuality, bringing it close almost to parallel heterosexuality."

"I also watch my pronouns, especially . . . when dealing with romantic love.  . . . I say "she-she" or "he-he" when talking about love. . . . Now I try to make family references inclusive of the possibility of gay-lesbian parents as well."

"From direct classroom discussion of homoeroticism . . ."

PRO-UNISEX

"Becoming' a boy or a girl for most people . . . required a lot of training and repetition and warning.  One was not automatically, easily, or naturally a boy or girl but needed to have one's gender socially constructed, artificially channeled, . . ."

"One was not automatically, easily, a satisfactory ‘boy' or ‘girl'."   "Men would go back to a time when their training in being "manly" or "masculine" was new and they knew it was not natural for them."

OTHERS OF INTEREST

"Bring your SEED teaching and learning to your classroom practice."

"Try using your librarian as an ally.  One of the fastest ways to SEED your school is with the help of your librarian.  Continually give them books, tapes, and video information.  This is a good way to "infiltrate" your school's collection."

"Where does The S.E.E.D. Project sit in the map of national school reform? . . . Though it never advertises, it has also become the nation's largest K-12 faculty development project and the one most directed toward teacher renewal in new scholarship and teaching methods."
